Abstract
Tuberculosis is a bacterial disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A Disintegrin and Metalloprotenase with Thrombospodin Type 1 Motif member 13 also known as ADAMTS 13, is an exquisitely specific plasma metalloprotease that proteolytically regulates von Willebrand factor function which is a glycoprotein that facilitates platelet adhension to injured blood vessels. These parameters were monitored in TB disease and treatment. Materials and methods: Fifty newly diagnosed Tuberculosis subjects were monitored at two months interval of treatment (1st treatment, 2nd treatment and 3rd treatment TB subjects) until the end of the sixth month. Fifty controls subjects were involved. Parameters were analyzed using OPSY-MR Enzynme Linked Immunoabsorbent assay machine using reagents from Glory Science inc. China. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 25 was used to analyse all data. Data was considered at p < 0.05. Results: Results showed that there was a significant progressive decrease in the mean value of ADAMTS 13 (p = 0.000) from 56.84±17.93ng in Newly diagnosed TB subjects to 48.63±5.51ng in 1st treatment TB subjects to 44.14±5.09ng in 2nd treatment to 44.71±5.27ng/ml in 3rd treatment TB subjects when compared. . The values of VWF also significantly decreased (p = 0.000) from Newly diagnosed TB patients to 3rd treatment TB subjects when compared. According to our findings, tuberculosis affected every parameter that was studied. By the end of the fourth month of treatment however, all changed parameters had reverted to nearly control levels. It is therefore necessary to incorporate the monitoring of these values during treatment.
