Perception of Edo State Journalists on Sources of News Stories for Conventional Journalism Practice in the Digital Age

Abstract

The researchers investigated perception of Edo State journalists on sources of news stories for conventional/traditional media reporters in the era of digital/new media in Nigeria. The objective of the study-theory??? The researchers adopted mixed research method comprising of survey, observation and library for the study. Thus, Fifty selected reporters and editors drawn from selected
media organizations in Edo State were surveyed. Inferences were also drawn extensively from observation and literatures. The ndings of the study shows that authentic websites of organisations, ofcial X (formally Twitter) account of individuals and organizations, credible bloggers, online/citizen reporters, Articial Intelligence (AI) machines among others are news sources for conventional/traditional mass media reporters in the era of digital media. Based on the finding, the researchers concluded that the advent of technology notably AI and the digital/new media have tremendously altered the traditional news sources among conventional reporters/journalists in Nigeria. Based on the conclusion, the researchers recommended among others, the training and retraining of journalists on digital media and Articial Intelligence (AI), use among journalists/reporters in Nigeria.
