Abstract

This researcher investigated the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in promoting gender-responsive journalism in Delta State, Nigeria, with a focus on enhancing women's participation and representation in the media industry. The research objectives include assessing the level of awareness and utilization of ICT tools among journalists, examining the impacts of ICT on gender representation in media reporting, identifying challenges faced by journalists in using ICT for gender-responsive journalism, and determining how ICT can be leveraged to promote gender balance in journalism practice. Premised on the Diffusion of Innovation Theory (DIT), the researcher employed a survey design and questionnaire instrument to collect data from journalists in Delta State. The findings revealed that ICT significantly increases women's participation in the media industry, provides a platform for diverse voices and perspectives, enhances journalists' capacity to produce gender-sensitive content, facilitates access to information and resources, and encourages inclusive and equitable storytelling, ultimately transforming the journalism industry to be more gender-responsive, inclusive, and equitable. The study recommended that journalists proactively seek out ongoing digital skills training and
capacity-building programmes, collaborate with peers and industry networks to share best practices, and leverage ICT to integrate innovative approaches to promoting gender-responsive journalism.
